Municipal Council approves Starbucks agreement and speed limit reduction on Main Street

In a pivotal meeting on June 12, 2025, the Borough of Sayreville's governing body addressed several key developments, with the approval of a speed limit reduction on Main Street emerging as a significant highlight. The resolution, which has received the green light from Middlesex County, aims to lower the speed limit from MacArthur to Washington, a move officials believe will enhance safety for both residents and businesses in the area.

"This has been a long time coming, and we are pleased to see it approved," said a borough representative, emphasizing the importance of the change for community safety. The next step involves presenting the resolution to the Sayreville council for formal approval and the creation of an ordinance to implement the new speed limit.

In addition to traffic safety, the meeting also touched on ongoing redevelopment efforts. The executive director reported successful completion of two ADA investigation studies for the JCP&L and Sunshine Biscuit sites, with plans to pursue redevelopment for the latter once a developer is appointed. Further studies are set to be presented at the upcoming July meeting, indicating a proactive approach to community development.

Meanwhile, the long-awaited Bass Pro Shop project is progressing, with the building's core and shell expected to be completed by fall, paving the way for tenant interior work to commence in the following year.
