Elwood Honors Fall Athletic Achievements at Recognition Ceremony

The Elwood Union Free School District Board of Education meeting on December 12, 2024, celebrated the achievements of student athletes and coaches from the fall sports season. Athletic Director Dave Shanahan led the recognition ceremony, highlighting the dedication and accomplishments of the students.

Shanahan began by honoring Gavin Clozal, a standout golfer who earned all-conference honors and achieved a top 15 finish in the Section 11 county tournament. His success was attributed to his hard work and commitment to the sport.

The meeting also recognized the girls' cross country team, coached by Tammy Sikoli, who had a historic undefeated season, becoming league and conference champions. The team was acknowledged for their remarkable turnaround, having previously struggled in past seasons. Eighth grader Sloan was particularly noted for qualifying for the New York State championship and finishing 27th out of 120 runners.

The varsity boys' soccer team, under the leadership of coaches Lou Hatter and Chris Riley, was celebrated for their impressive season, which included winning the league championship and reaching the Suffolk County Class A Championship finals. Shanahan praised the team's talent and teamwork, emphasizing their significant achievements.
