John Glenn High School celebrates holiday spirit with contests and student achievements

The halls of John Glenn High School are alive with the spirit of the season, adorned with festive decorations that bring a sense of joy and community. As students and staff navigate the vibrant corridors, the excitement is palpable, especially with recent achievements celebrated during the Elwood UFSD Board of Education meeting on December 12, 2024.

Among the highlights was a special recognition for Daven Lee, alongside commendations for the boys' varsity soccer team and the girls' varsity cross-country team. The board also applauded the dedication of master teachers, Mrs. Liss and Mr. Walker, for their exceptional contributions to the school. The November students of the month were celebrated as well, with Daisy Pineda from twelfth grade, Abigail Billian from eleventh, Rena Blair from tenth, and Anderson Hank from ninth all receiving accolades for their outstanding school spirit.

As winter sports gain momentum, the varsity boys' basketball team kicked off their season with an exhilarating win at the annual blackout game. Looking ahead, John Glenn High School is gearing up for holiday spirit week and a senior volleyball tournament, promising a lively end to the semester. The music department is also set to shine, with winter concerts featuring the chorus and orchestra on December 16 and the band on December 18, showcasing the talents of young musicians.

Meanwhile, Elwood Middle School (EMS) is embracing the holiday season with its own initiatives. The holiday boutique brought joy to students as they shopped for gifts for their loved ones, while the adopt-a-family program has allowed staff to provide support and gifts to those in need. The "December to Remember" program has inspired acts of gratitude throughout the school, from food pantry donations to expressions of thanks for bus drivers and custodians.

As the holiday door decorating contest approaches, the festive atmosphere at both schools continues to grow, fostering a sense of unity and celebration within the community.
