The Mineola Union Free School District is fostering a spirit of gratitude and community engagement through its latest initiatives, as highlighted in a recent school board meeting. The meeting featured a presentation from senior student Jordan Chaver, who introduced the monthly themes program aimed at promoting positivity within the school. This month's theme, "Grateful Gatherings," encourages students to express appreciation for the people and moments that enrich their lives. Participants can share acts of kindness and gratitude, with opportunities to win prizes and Mineola merchandise.
Chaver also reported on the successful activities of the student service center, which included volunteering at the Mary Brennan Inn for Thanksgiving preparations and cooking meals at the Ronald McDonald House. Additionally, students engaged in creative projects, such as crafting Thanksgiving decorations for residents at Sun Harbor Nursing Home.
The meeting also celebrated the achievements of the marching band, which recently placed second in the New York State Field Band Conference with their show "Jitterbug Cafe." Other highlights included a financial aid night hosted by the guidance office, where parents learned about the financial aid process from Hofstra University representatives, and a community gathering that focused on school culture and values.
These initiatives reflect the district's commitment to not only academic excellence but also to nurturing a supportive and engaged school community. As the school year progresses, the Mineola Union Free School District continues to prioritize programs that enhance student involvement and foster a sense of belonging among its students.
