Superintendent Belizzi seeks approval for Collier contract extension amid budget concerns

The Wallingford School District Board of Education convened on June 16, 2025, to discuss several key agenda items, including financial updates, contract amendments, and administrative reports.

The meeting began with a brief report from the Operations Committee, highlighting a projected surplus of $208,000. A significant focus was placed on streamlining food services reports to enhance efficiency.

Next, the board discussed the potential approval of an amendment to the contract with Colliers, a consulting firm. Superintendent Belizzi proposed extending the contract to cover additional services at an hourly rate of $220, with a total not to exceed $17,160. This extension is necessary due to unforeseen expenses related to the 10-year waterfall plan and additional meetings with the town council. Some board members expressed skepticism about further funding, emphasizing the need for a site to be located before approving additional expenditures. Despite concerns, the board ultimately voted in favor of the amendment.

Superintendent Belizzi also provided an administrative report, noting that the last day of school had just concluded. He acknowledged the achievements of the Lyman Hall baseball team, which will be honored in July. Additionally, he addressed public comments regarding classroom sizes, reiterating the district's guidelines and the ongoing monitoring of student numbers to ensure appropriate class sizes.

The meeting concluded with updates on maintenance issues, including lawn care and a report on bats at Fritz School, which indicated no evidence of colonization. The next board meeting is scheduled for July 28, 2025, at 6:30 PM in the Town Council Chambers.
