Local Police Report Increases in Arrests and Traffic Incidents During Motorcycle Week

During the recent Laconia Police Commission meeting held on June 25, 2025, significant updates were shared regarding the police department's activities and community engagement efforts. The meeting highlighted a notable increase in both communication and enforcement efforts, reflecting the department's ongoing commitment to public safety.

One of the key points discussed was the rise in text message communications, which increased by 12.3%, totaling 1,505 messages sent. This uptick is attributed to a higher volume of calls for service, particularly during the busy summer season with an influx of out-of-town visitors. The survey completion rate also saw a positive trend, reaching 24.5%, up by 1.8% from the previous period, indicating that community outreach initiatives are resonating well with residents.

The meeting also reviewed the outcomes from the recent Motorcycle Week, which was deemed successful. The police reported a total of 65 custodial arrests, a significant increase from 46 the previous year. Notably, there were 8 Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) arrests, double the number from the previous year. Other arrests included charges for resisting arrest, drug possession, and various assaults, showcasing the department's active role in maintaining order during a high-traffic event.

Motor vehicle incidents were also a focal point, with the department responding to 35 crashes, a sharp increase from 19 the previous year. The number of motor vehicle stops rose to 386, compared to 239 in the previous year, with 50 summonses issued and over 120 written warnings given.
