Onslow County Library aims for 1500 participants in summer reading program

Onslow County's summer reading program is heating up, with the Public Library aiming to reach 1,500 participants. As of now, they have 1,001 sign-ups, leaving just 499 spots to fill. Tori Parks from the library emphasized the importance of early reading to combat the "summer slump," encouraging families to register online or at any library branch.

The program, which is open to all ages, features exciting incentives and special events, including a performance by bilingual musical storyteller Luke Vandergriff. He will perform at various branches on July 16 and 17, showcasing homemade instruments made from recycled materials. While registration is required for the Swansboro branch due to limited space, the event is free and open to the public at all locations.

Parks highlighted the library's commitment to fostering a love for reading and creativity, urging community members to join in the fun. With a strong social media presence and accessible resources, the library is poised to exceed its goal and make this summer reading program a memorable experience for all.
