Hoffman Estates Sustainability Commission enhances yard waste management and composting initiatives

The Village of Hoffman Estates is making strides in sustainability with new waste management initiatives that aim to reduce environmental impact. During a recent meeting at Bon Appetit, Hannah from the Sustainability Commission highlighted key changes in the village's waste disposal practices.

One of the most significant updates is the elimination of yard waste stickers. Residents can now use a 30-gallon tub or paper containers for yard waste, making disposal easier and more efficient. Additionally, the village's composting program has transitioned to Groot, a new waste management partner, allowing residents to include food scraps in their yard waste collection. This change encourages composting and reduces landfill waste.

Hoffman Estates is also promoting a new take-home container program, allowing residents to bring their own containers to restaurants for leftovers. This initiative aims to minimize the use of non-recyclable styrofoam containers, aligning with broader environmental goals.
