Enid City Council approves $200K chlorine purchase and welcomes new utilities director

In a pivotal meeting on July 1, 2025, the City of Enid's Commission approved significant funding for essential public utilities, including a $200,000 blanket purchase order for chlorine gas and a $600,000 investment in water meter upgrades. The decisions aim to enhance the city's water treatment processes and infrastructure.

The commission unanimously agreed to waive finance procedure requirements to secure chlorine gas from sole source provider Brintag Southwest Inc. This purchase is crucial for maintaining the water treatment process from July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026. Mayor and commissioners emphasized the importance of this standard acquisition, which is vital for ensuring safe drinking water for residents.

Additionally, the commission approved a $600,000 blanket purchase order for components and upgrades to the Automated Metering Infrastructure (AMI) water meter system from Core and Main, LP. This investment will allow the city to purchase water meters throughout the year, ensuring efficient water management and billing.

In a notable personnel update, the commission welcomed Brooke Brandenburg as the new director of public utilities. Brandenburg, who brings extensive municipal experience from Goddard, Kansas, expressed enthusiasm for his new role, highlighting the positive community atmosphere in Enid.

The meeting also included the approval of a $636,557.28 purchase for a new sewer cleaner, replacing an outdated model that had become costly to maintain. This equipment is essential for keeping the city’s sewer system operational and efficient.
