Middletown Police Department plans firing range upgrades to enhance training and revenue

The Middletown City Council meeting on July 1, 2025, featured a significant presentation regarding proposed upgrades to the Middletown police firing range. Deputy Chief Morgan outlined plans aimed at transforming the underutilized facility into a more effective training center for law enforcement.

The estimated cost for these upgrades is approximately $28,000, with the city responsible for 40% of that amount. Morgan explained that the upgrades would not only improve training capabilities but also generate potential revenue by allowing the department to host training classes for other agencies. Currently, the range is used by various local law enforcement agencies without charge, but the proposed improvements could lead to a fee structure for their use.

The council members expressed interest in the proposal, recognizing the benefits of enhanced training for officers and the potential for increased community trust through better-prepared law enforcement.
