Recreation Board recommends $220K agreement for Troy Aquatic Park renovations

The Recreation and Parks Committee of Troy, Ohio, convened on July 2, 2025, to discuss a significant recommendation for the City Council regarding the Troy Aquatic Park. The committee is proposing to authorize the recreation board to enter into a professional service agreement with MSA Architects from Columbus, Ohio, for improvements and maintenance of the aquatic facility, with a budget not exceeding $220,000.

Committee member Mr. Titterington emphasized that this initiative is strictly for maintenance and does not involve any expansion of the facility. This clarification comes in light of previous discussions during the budget process, where potential expansion alternatives were considered. The council had previously approved a budget of $1.7 million for the Troy Aquatic Park, specifically earmarked for repairs and renovations without expansion. The planned improvements include essential upgrades such as gutters, pumps, and chemical controllers, aimed at maintaining the facility's standards after 21 years of operation.

Mr. Titterington noted the importance of these renovations to prevent the facility from falling behind similar establishments in the Miami Valley. The allocated funds will cover the final project design and the development of a scope of work, allowing the city to bid out the renovation tasks effectively.

Recreation Director Mr. Seiler provided additional context, highlighting that the facility, despite its age, remains in relatively good condition compared to other similar facilities. This assessment was based on a study conducted the previous fall, which indicated that the park is well-maintained for its age.

The committee's discussions reflect a proactive approach to maintaining community recreational facilities, ensuring they remain safe and functional for residents. As the project moves forward, the focus will remain on preserving the existing infrastructure while planning for future needs through a comprehensive park and recreation master planning process.
