Clough Pond Beach Association discusses cyanobacteria and water safety measures

The Loudon Board of Selectmen meeting on July 1, 2025, highlighted significant community safety initiatives, particularly regarding the newly installed lightning notification system at local recreational fields. This system, funded through a grant, aims to enhance safety for youth and community members during outdoor activities by providing timely alerts about approaching lightning.

The system activates a red strobe light and a siren when lightning is detected within a 10-mile radius, giving individuals up to 30 minutes to seek shelter. This proactive measure is designed to protect those using the fields, especially during summer months when outdoor activities peak. The system operates daily from 7 AM to 9 PM, ensuring that alerts are timely and relevant.

In addition to the lightning system, the meeting also addressed ongoing traffic monitoring efforts on Hollow Road and Mudget Hill Road, where an average of 348 vehicles were recorded daily. The Chief of Police noted the need for further data collection on southbound traffic to better understand patterns and ensure road safety.

The board discussed upcoming workshops related to emergency management, particularly in light of the town's proximity to the Seabrook Nuclear Power Plant. The Chief emphasized the importance of having multiple decision-makers attend these sessions to broaden community preparedness.
