Habitat for Humanity plans new 27-unit multifamily building in Roosevelt Park

In the heart of Grand Rapids, a transformative project is set to reshape the Roosevelt Park neighborhood, as the Brownfield Redevelopment Authority (BRA) convened to discuss an ambitious housing initiative. The plan, presented on June 25, 2025, aims to replace an existing storage building used by Habitat for Humanity with a new five-story multifamily structure featuring 27 for-sale units. This development is not just about new homes; it represents a commitment to affordability and community engagement.

The project, which carries a total cost of approximately $10.5 million, is designed to cater to a range of income levels. Sixteen of the units will be priced for households earning at or below 80% of the Kent County area median income, while the remaining 11 units will be available for those earning up to 120% of the median income. This thoughtful approach aims to ensure that the new homes are accessible to a diverse group of residents, fostering a sense of community in the area.

This project, originally approved in February 2022, faced delays due to unforeseen geotechnical issues and negotiations with adjacent property owners. The revised plan aims to incorporate additional housing activities and long-term affordability measures, targeting units at 80% to 95% of the area median income.
