Maya Acosta, co-host of the city newscast, said the Tehachapi Farmers Market is continuing through the summer and described it as a success with weeks remaining in the season. The market features local produce and artisan vendors and takes place in downtown Tehachapi.

Ki Budge, a city newscast host, described recent pavement work: “we set a record with the amount of asphalt that has been placed already,” Budge said, noting that streets on the north side of the train tracks — the Alphabet streets H, I and J, as well as Mojave and Davis streets — received new asphalt. Budge also said grindings from those roads were used to recondition alleys throughout the city.

Budge and other hosts said paving work continued on the south side near the high school on Denison Street after utility relocations were completed. The All American 5K will begin at Central Park; registration opens at 6 a.m. and the race starts at 7 a.m., city presenters said. Adventist Health is listed as the event sponsor and the pancake breakfast, hosted by the Tehachapi Warriors Booster Club and the high school football team, will start at 8 a.m.

The festival’s craft booths will open at 9 a.m. with 57 vendors, followed by live music beginning at 10:30 a.m. A children’s parade will be led by the Tehachapi Police Department; Chief Richard Standridge said the route was shortened this year to reduce the number of road closures while preserving access to park festivities. “So we’ve made some modifications to the parade route due to not wanting to close as many roads for the park festivities as we have in the past,” Standridge said, adding that rolling road closures will be used during the parade.

Standridge outlined the parade route: it will begin in front of City Hall on Robinson Street, travel east on F Street to Davis Street, then proceed south on Davis into Central Park, ending at the park’s usual parade finish. He also asked that children who use bicycles, scooters or skateboards wear helmets; feet-only participants are welcome without mechanical vehicles.

Event organizers gave three ways to register for the 5K: online at tbrpd.org, by phone at (661) 822-3228, or in person at the TBRPD office at 490 West D Street. The hosts said awards will follow the race and participants can then join the park activities.

Other July 4 programming includes a local rodeo and the Bad Bulls show hosted by TMRA, with gates opening early and the show starting at 6 p.m.; organizers noted the rodeo is a popular vantage point for the fireworks. Tickets for the rodeo are available locally at Hemi Hay and Feed and Albertsons, and in Bakersfield at Boot Barn and Emporium Western.

Fireworks will be launched from the east end of the city airport and are scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. City hosts suggested neighborhoods and public spaces such as Capitol Hills, Golden Hills and areas along Highline as possible viewing points.
