Long Beach celebrates youth artists at District Council awards ceremony

The Long Beach Youth Art Contest Awards 2025 celebrated the creativity and talent of young artists in the community during a recent government meeting held on July 3, 2025. The event recognized winners from various council districts, highlighting their contributions to the cultural landscape of Long Beach.

Councilwoman Souley Saro's legislative deputy, Janae Sylvester, presented awards to winners Audrey and Alyssa, commending their artistic expressions that capture the beauty of Long Beach. Sylvester emphasized the importance of recognizing young artists and their ability to beautify the city through their work.

Vice Mayor Robert Turanga also spoke at the event, praising the participation and the personal nature of art. He encouraged the young artists to continue expressing themselves creatively, noting the emotional impact that art can have on viewers. Turanga introduced Ellie Guerrero and Siri Diaz, who were recognized for their vibrant pieces, including a cityscape of Long Beach created with crayons.

Victoria Rowe represented Councilwoman Tanuah Thrash Ntuk for District 8, celebrating the artistic achievements of local youth. She introduced Manolo Castillo, a six-year-old artist whose work reflects the diversity of Long Beach, and Sharon Mendez, a 13-year-old who created a mosaic highlighting significant local landmarks. Rowe expressed pride in the young artists and their ability to convey the essence of Long Beach through their art.

The event underscored the significance of youth engagement in the arts and the role of local government in fostering creativity within the community.
