Cedarhurst residents express support and opposition for Woodmere Golf Course redevelopment

The Hempstead Town Board meeting held on July 1, 2025, focused on community feedback regarding a proposed development plan for the former Woodmere Golf Course. The meeting featured several residents voicing their opinions, both in support of and against the project.

Ayelet Potash, a Cedarhurst resident, expressed strong support for the development, highlighting the plan's potential benefits for families in the area. She read a statement from Rena Safra, another Cedarhurst resident, who commended the Town officials for their efforts in balancing development with land preservation. Safra emphasized the importance of community engagement in the planning process and expressed trust in the officials to address remaining concerns.

Ephraim Rudman, a resident of Lawrence, also voiced his support, acknowledging the lengthy discussions that led to the current proposal. He praised the collaborative efforts of the elected officials and developers, noting that the plan addresses community needs while preserving open space.

Frank Argento, the Chief Operating Officer of the Rockaway Young Club, reiterated his support for the preliminary plan, highlighting the positive impact of the proposed open spaces adjacent to the club.

In contrast, Lynn Almeler, a Cedarhurst resident, firmly opposed the construction of 160 housing units on the golf course, raising concerns about the additional traffic and parking demands that would accompany such a development.
