Astrid Silva named Las Vegas citizen of the month for community contributions

The City Council of Las Vegas convened on July 3, 2025, to recognize Astrid Silva as the Citizen of the Month for July. Astrid, a proud graduate of ATEC, has dedicated the past eight years to her community through her organization, Dream Big Nevada. Her commitment to addressing local issues has made her a vital resource for Ward 3, where she actively reports problems such as malfunctioning street lights and unsafe driving conditions to city officials.

During the meeting, it was highlighted that Astrid's community involvement extends to her family, particularly her nephew Noah. She recently engaged with the East Las Vegas Community Center to explore youth programming for Noah, discovering that summer camp registration was still open. However, after sharing this information on social media, the camp quickly reached capacity, leading to a waitlist. Fortunately, a few slots became available for the following week, allowing Noah to participate in the activities.

The council acknowledged Astrid's proactive approach to community engagement, noting her efforts to ensure that other families also benefit from city offerings. Although Moe, the director of programming at the East Las Vegas Community Center, was unable to attend due to ongoing power outages affecting services, his absence did not overshadow the recognition of Astrid's contributions.

The meeting concluded with a celebration of Astrid's dedication to her community and her role in fostering connections among residents, emphasizing the importance of local involvement in enhancing the quality of life in Las Vegas.
