Longmont prepares festive July 4th with symphony concert street party and drone show

The Longmont City Council held a study session on July 1, 2025, where community events and public safety measures for the upcoming Fourth of July celebrations were key topics of discussion.

City officials highlighted the Longmont Symphony concert at Roosevelt Park, scheduled from 11 AM to 3 PM on July 4. This event offers a family-friendly alternative to the evening's fireworks and drone show, catering to residents seeking a more relaxed atmosphere.

Councillor Yarbrough expressed gratitude for the community's support during the recent Juneteenth celebration, emphasizing the importance of community engagement in local events. She also inquired about the logistics for the Fourth of July festivities, underscoring the need for clear communication to ensure residents are informed about the day's activities.

Assistant City Manager Sandy Cedar provided details about the Fourth of July schedule, which includes a street party on Emery Street from 5 PM to 11 PM, featuring food trucks, games for children, and live music. The evening will culminate with a drone show at 9:15 PM, followed by a fireworks display sponsored by the Skyline Kiwanis. Cedar noted that this year’s drone show will incorporate music, enhancing the overall experience for attendees.

Concerns about transportation were raised, particularly regarding shuttle services. While shuttles were not arranged for this year’s event, officials mentioned that alternative transportation options, such as Bridal Longmont, would be available. They acknowledged the challenges of managing crowds and parking, especially with the expanded event area this year, which includes First Street.

To address previous complaints about food availability, a diverse lineup of food vendors has been organized for the street party. City officials encouraged residents to utilize nearby parking and the trail system to access the event, as many businesses are expected to remain open during the celebrations.

As the Fourth of July approaches, the city aims to foster community spirit through these events while ensuring safety and accessibility for all residents. The council's proactive planning reflects a commitment to enhancing the quality of life in Longmont, making this year’s celebrations a memorable occasion for families and friends.
