San Francisco extends Navigation Center operations at 1950 Mission and Civic Center Hotel

The San Francisco County government meeting held on July 4, 2025, focused on the resolution to extend the operations of two navigation centers, located at 1950 Mission Street and the Civic Center Hotel. The first item discussed was the extension of the 1950 Mission Street Navigation Center, which has been operational since March 2015 and currently provides 75 beds. The construction of affordable housing at this site has been postponed, prompting the need for an extension until September 30, 2025. This measure is intended to prevent the site from remaining vacant and to continue providing shelter for those in need.

Similarly, the Civic Center Hotel, which operates as a navigation center with 93 rooms, will also see its operations extended until December 31, 2025. The construction timeline for this site has also been pushed back, with no anticipated start date until late 2025.

Emily Cohen from the Department of Homelessness and Supportive Services highlighted the importance of these navigation centers in addressing street homelessness. She noted that additional navigation centers are in development, including the Bayshore Navigation Center with 128 beds, the Quinn Navigation Center with 125 beds, and the SoMa Navigation Center with 86 beds. These efforts aim to expand the city's capacity to serve individuals experiencing homelessness.

The meeting concluded with a clear commitment to maintaining shelter availability during the construction delays, ensuring that vulnerable populations continue to receive necessary support.
