San Francisco committee proposes renaming South Street to Warriors Way for Golden State Warriors

In a significant move to honor local sports culture, the San Francisco County Land Use Committee has proposed renaming South Street in Mission Bay to "Warriors Way." This resolution, introduced during a recent meeting, aims to recognize the Golden State Warriors basketball team's contributions to the city and the Bay Area.

Supervisor Jane Kim, who sponsored the resolution, emphasized the importance of this renaming as a gesture of appreciation for the Warriors, particularly as they transition to their new home near the Chase Center, currently under construction. "This is a special way to recognize and welcome the Warriors team to San Francisco," Kim stated, highlighting the team's impact both on and off the court.

The selected street for renaming is a newly constructed block that lacks historical ties to the Mission Bay neighborhood, making it an ideal candidate for this honor. The proposal has garnered support from various local organizations, including UCSF and the Mission Bay Citizens Advisory Committee, ensuring community backing for the initiative.

The committee's discussions also included a brief presentation from representatives of the Warriors and the Department of Public Works, who affirmed the collaborative efforts behind the renaming process. The resolution is set to appear on the Board of Supervisors agenda on July 10, 2025, pending approval.
