The San Francisco City Committee meeting on July 4, 2025, focused on significant developments regarding local housing initiatives and proposed ordinances.
During the public comment section, John Avelos from Choo Choo expressed concerns about a proposed ordinance. In response, the committee took two actions: they amended the ordinance, duplicated the file, and recommended the amended version to the full board. Additionally, they decided to continue the duplicated file as an amendment until November 18.
The committee also discussed an ordinance sponsored by Supervisor Peskin aimed at establishing a new Asia senior housing special use district at 758 to 772 Pacific Avenue. This new district would facilitate the development of 175 units of 100% affordable senior housing by increasing height limits to 155 feet. The Planning Commission had previously reviewed this item on September 19 and recommended approval with one amendment, which proposed renaming the district to reflect its actual address rather than a new name. However, Supervisor Peskin opted to retain the current name, and the amendment was not accepted.
The ordinance received support from various stakeholders, including the Chinatown Community Development Center (CCDC), community leaders, and local residents. Supervisors Preston and Melgar also joined as co-sponsors of the initiative. Following public comments, the committee recommended the ordinance to the full board as a committee report, marking a step forward in addressing affordable housing needs for seniors in the area.
