The San Francisco City Council is set to approve the Portola Music Festival, scheduled for September 30 and October 1, 2025, at Pier 80. This year’s festival promises an exciting lineup featuring international acts such as Skrillex, Nelly Furtado, Thundercat, and Major Lazer, with an expected attendance of 40,000 people.
Goldenvoice, the festival organizer, is collaborating with Nonplus Ultra to enhance the event experience following feedback from last year. The Port of San Francisco has conditionally approved the festival, pending final approval from the Port Commission and the issuance of a special event license. If granted, the permit will allow for extended outdoor entertainment hours until 11 PM on both days.
In response to sound complaints from residents during the inaugural festival, city officials have worked closely with Goldenvoice to implement improved sound mitigation strategies. This year, the festival will feature a hotline and call center for neighbors to voice concerns in real-time. Additionally, five sound monitoring terminals will be installed to ensure compliance with sound level regulations throughout the event.
The city staff has recommended approval of the festival permit, highlighting the proactive measures taken to address community concerns. Goldenvoice representatives expressed their commitment to learning from past experiences to ensure a better event this year. The festival aims to foster a positive relationship with the community while delivering a memorable experience for attendees.
