The San Francisco City Commission convened on July 4, 2025, to address ongoing compliance issues related to the Brixton, a venue located at 2140 Union Street. The primary focus of the meeting was to discuss potential amendments to the limited life performance (LLP) permit held by the Brixton, which has faced numerous violations since its issuance in December 2021.
The commission highlighted that the Brixton has received a total of 13 complaints regarding noise and violations of its permit conditions, particularly concerning entertainment operations extending beyond the permitted cutoff time of 11 PM. Inspectors visited the venue 12 times, identifying violations during 9 of those visits, with 7 instances specifically related to entertainment continuing past the designated time. The venue has been issued one notice of violation and six citations, all of which have been paid by the business.
During the meeting, it was noted that the Brixton's management has been educated on the permit requirements, yet violations persisted, including instances where on-site managers claimed ignorance of the permit conditions. The commission emphasized the importance of having a responsible person on-site who is aware of the permit stipulations.
As a result of the repeated violations, the commission is considering an administrative suspension of the Brixton's permit for up to 15 days, as allowed under municipal police code. This decision comes after the venue received its third citation within a 72-day period.
The commission is expected to discuss and possibly take action on reconditioning the Brixton's permit, with a recommendation to remind the owners of the critical need to adhere to the established rules, particularly the requirement to cease entertainment by 11 PM. The meeting included input from the venue's management, who acknowledged the compliance issues and expressed a commitment to rectify them moving forward.
