Mayor Shevlin announces Canyon Park opening and upcoming events in Monrovia

Canyon Park's reopening and the upcoming Fountain to Falls race were the highlights of the Monrovia City Council meeting on July 1, 2025. Mayor Shevlin urged residents to embrace the park's new features while being responsible stewards of the environment. "It took five years and approximately $24 million to restore Canyon Park, so let’s keep it beautiful," she emphasized.

In addition to the park discussions, the council confirmed Dr. Kelly as the representative for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games ad hoc committee, sparking excitement about potential economic benefits for the valley. "Hopefully, more revenue and attention will come our way," she noted.

The council also passed several amendments, including updates to the Monrovia municipal code regarding water service and the official designation of Sunnichi Park as a city park. The meeting concluded without memorials, a positive sign for the community, and the next council meeting is scheduled for July 15. Residents were reminded to enjoy the upcoming Fourth of July festivities safely, with a city-sponsored fireworks show planned.
