A new apartment project at 395 Third Street is set to transform the Central SoMa area of San Francisco, as city officials expressed their excitement during a recent government meeting. The proposed development features a striking 5-unit, 370-foot tall building designed by the Danish firm Henning Larsen in collaboration with local architects Multi Studios.
The project is compliant with state density bonus regulations and includes essential affordable housing components. Its prime location near SFMOMA and the Moscone Center positions it as a significant addition to the downtown skyline.
Michael Larsen from Henning Larsen highlighted the design's inspiration drawn from San Francisco's natural beauty, including the redwoods and iconic landmarks like the Coit Tower. The design aims to create a harmonious blend of urban living and nature, featuring generous balconies and a unique streetscape interaction.
The building will include a porte cochère for traffic management and a vibrant retail space at the corner of Third and Harrison. The design also emphasizes community engagement, with ample green spaces and a rooftop garden for residents.
Commissioners expressed general support for the project, indicating a positive outlook for its approval. As the city continues to evolve, this development promises to enhance the architectural landscape and provide much-needed housing in a bustling area.
