A significant leadership transition is underway at the San Francisco Department of Public Health (DPH) as Anna Robert, a key figure in the city's healthcare landscape, prepares to take on a new role as Chief Executive Officer at Mission Neighborhood Health Center. During a recent government meeting, officials and colleagues gathered to celebrate Robert's impactful 11-year tenure at DPH, particularly highlighting her contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic and her commitment to addressing health disparities in the community.

Robert's journey at DPH began as a nurse manager of the primary care nurse advice line, eventually rising to the position of director of primary care. Her leadership was instrumental in the successful rollout of the Epic electronic health record system and in ensuring access to testing, vaccines, and treatment for the most vulnerable populations during the pandemic. "Anna exemplifies community-responsive healthcare," noted a fellow commissioner, emphasizing her proactive approach in mobilizing resources to serve those at highest risk.

As she departs, Robert leaves behind a legacy of innovation and resilience, having built a strong primary care leadership team that is expected to continue her work. Carol Taniguchi, her deputy, will step in as the acting director of primary care, ensuring a smooth transition.

In addition to recognizing Robert's achievements, the meeting also addressed ongoing public health initiatives, including the promotion of MPOX vaccinations ahead of the summer season. DPH officials are urging the community to get vaccinated, particularly in light of recent outbreaks, and are rolling out Doxy PEP as a preventive measure.
