Nazneen and Bridal Foster, a senior program manager for the Department on the Status of Women, presented a request for support on an "accept and expand" resolution related to a grant from the Blue Shield of California Foundation. This grant aims to leverage collaboratives to end domestic violence, with the initial funding amount set at $150,000. The new resolution seeks to increase this funding to a total of $305,850,000.

Foster explained that since February 2019, the department has been involved with the Blue Shield Foundation's grant program, which has led to the establishment of the San Francisco Healing Roots Collaborative. This initiative is a partnership between the Department on the Status of Women, Women, Inc., and Young Community Developers, focusing on addressing the root causes of domestic violence through collaboration between governmental and non-governmental agencies.

The grant period runs from April 1, 2023, to March 30, 2024. Foster noted that the delay in presenting the resolution was due to administrative issues. The additional funding will support nonprofit partners and departmental staff involved in the project, including the creation of the Healing Roots podcast aimed at raising awareness about domestic violence prevention and intervention.

During the discussion, it was confirmed that approximately $42,000 of the total funding would be allocated for staffing, while around $135,000 would go to partner organizations. The grant had previously been included in the department's budget during the June 2023 budget hearings.

Following Foster's presentation, the committee opened the floor for public comments, but no speakers came forward. Vice Chair Mandelmann expressed interest in co-sponsoring the resolution, indicating strong support among the supervisors for the initiative.

The meeting concluded with a clear commitment to advancing the resolution, highlighting the county's ongoing efforts to combat domestic violence through collaborative funding and community engagement.
