Carmel Fest parade honors Fire Department and VFW with community celebrations

On a warm July morning, the streets of Carmel buzzed with excitement as the annual Carmel Fest parade kicked off, showcasing the community's spirit and honoring its heroes. The parade, a highlight of the summer, featured a vibrant display of local organizations, including the Carmel Police Department and the Carmel Fire Department, which served as the grand marshal this year, celebrating 120 years of dedicated service to the community.

As the parade commenced, Chief Drake Sterling of the Carmel Police Department led the way, accompanied by the department's SWAT Bearcat vehicle, a symbol of the city's commitment to safety and security. The atmosphere was lively, with candy being tossed to eager children lining the streets, and a sense of camaraderie filled the air as residents gathered to celebrate.

Among the notable participants were representatives from the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and the American Legion, who proudly displayed their colors. The VFW, celebrating its 125th anniversary, was recognized for its ongoing support and representation within the community. The post commander, Darren Bebo, and his wife, Jonica, were among those honored during the festivities.

The parade also featured a musical performance that surprised many attendees, as a live rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner echoed through the streets, showcasing a modern twist on a classic patriotic song. This moment highlighted the evolving nature of community traditions, blending respect for history with contemporary flair.

As the procession continued, local businesses joined in the celebration, with Republic Airways making its debut as a title sponsor for the event. Allied Solutions, another key sponsor, was acknowledged for its significant role in the community, employing around 700 people in Midtown Carmel.

The Carmel Fire Department's honor guard and pipes and drums added a ceremonial touch to the parade, while the children's Sparky parade float brought smiles to faces young and old. City councilors also participated, riding on fire trucks and engaging with the crowd, further emphasizing the community's unity and pride.

As the parade wound down, the sense of togetherness lingered, leaving residents with cherished memories and a renewed appreciation for their local heroes. The Carmel Fest parade not only celebrated the past but also fostered a spirit of community that promises to endure for years to come.
