The San Francisco Housing Authority is set to end its COVID-19 vaccination policies for staff and contractors, following a resolution approved during a recent government meeting. This decision, presented by HR Senior Analyst Ted Perini, will take effect on December 1, 2023, aligning with the city's earlier announcement to discontinue similar policies.
Implemented in September 2021, the authority's vaccination policy required all eligible staff to be fully vaccinated by November 2021. Remarkably, 100% compliance was achieved, with no employment losses due to vaccination status. A separate contractor vaccination policy was introduced in January 2022, responding to local mandates.
As vaccination rates soared, with over 90% of San Francisco residents fully vaccinated and a significant decline in COVID-related hospitalizations, the CDC declared an end to the public health emergency in May 2023. In light of these developments, the Housing Authority recommends following the city's lead in discontinuing its vaccination policies.
Despite the policy changes, the authority will continue to adhere to local health orders and CDC guidelines for general COVID-19 prevention, ensuring the safety of its staff. The meeting also highlighted ongoing efforts to promote awareness about booster shots through monthly newsletters, emphasizing the importance of vaccination in safeguarding public health.
This resolution marks a significant step in the city's transition towards normalcy as it navigates the post-pandemic landscape.
