Council Member Cashman supports new sauna licensing ordinance for city health standards

The City of Minneapolis Business, Housing & Zoning Committee convened on June 24, 2025, to discuss a proposed sauna licensing ordinance, which was a continuation from the previous meeting. Additionally, the committee explored the possibility of expanding sauna locations within the city’s park system. Currently, there are four designated areas near Cedar Lake, but plans for further expansion are in consideration. However, any new locations will maintain a 300-foot distance from residential areas to minimize disturbances. The park board representative noted that operational policies are in place to address environmental concerns, such as smoke or poor air quality, which could affect sauna operations.
