Residents highlight rollerblading concerns and sewer issues at North Ridgeville council meeting

Residents of North Ridgeville are set to see significant improvements in local traffic safety following the city council's recent announcement of a $700,000 grant from the Ohio Highway Safety Improvement Program. This funding will be allocated to construct a new roundabout at the intersection of Bainbridge Road and Root Road, a project expected to reduce serious injury crashes by up to 80% and enhance traffic flow for all road users, including pedestrians and emergency responders.

During the July 7, 2025, city council meeting, Mayor Kevin Corcoran highlighted the importance of this initiative, noting that North Ridgeville is one of only three municipalities in Lorain County to receive this funding. The roundabout is part of a broader strategy to improve road safety and efficiency in the area.

In addition to the roundabout project, the council discussed ongoing community concerns, including a resident's appeal regarding rollerblading regulations. Heather Lowe, a local parent, addressed the council about her daughter’s experiences with enforcement actions against her rollerblading in the neighborhood. Lowe emphasized the mental health benefits of the activity for her daughter, who has faced anxiety challenges. She urged the council to reconsider the enforcement of ordinances that seem to target her daughter while allowing similar behaviors by others, advocating for a more equitable approach to community safety.

The meeting also covered updates on the city’s water meter replacement project and ongoing street paving efforts, with the public works department making progress on Spruce Street. Residents were reminded to schedule appointments for their new water meters as notifications are being sent out.
