Gaithersburg proclaims July 2025 as Parks and Recreation Month

Under the warm glow of the Gaithersburg City Hall, a sense of community spirit filled the air as city officials gathered to celebrate a significant milestone: Parks and Recreation Month. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the National Recreation and Park Association's initiative, a celebration that highlights the essential role parks and recreation programs play in fostering vibrant communities.

Maura Dinwiddie, the division chief for sports and youth services, took to the podium to share the excitement surrounding this month’s theme, "Build Together, Play Together." She announced a series of engaging activities planned for Gaithersburg residents, including the Park Passport Challenge, Sports Fest at Boer Park, and a family PJ party at the Casey Community Center. These events aim to encourage community participation and showcase the diverse offerings of the city’s parks and recreation programs.

Mayor Judd Ashman formally proclaimed July 2025 as Parks and Recreation Month in Gaithersburg, emphasizing the importance of these programs in enhancing the quality of life for residents.
