Texas emergency management assesses damages and coordinates recovery efforts in Kerr County

The Kerr County Commissioners Court held an emergency session on July 7, 2025, to address ongoing recovery efforts following recent disasters affecting the area. The meeting featured discussions on funding, damage assessments, and shelter operations.

The session began with a focus on funding sources for recovery efforts, emphasizing that financial support would not impact the county budget. Officials highlighted the importance of having designated personnel present at various sites to monitor activities and prevent unauthorized dumping.

Kenneth Bell, the Section Chief for Infrastructure from the Texas Division of Emergency Management, provided a briefing on the current status of recovery operations. He reported that damage assessments were underway, with approximately 47 personnel deployed across the county to evaluate the extent of damage to homes and structures. This assessment aims to create a comprehensive map that will aid in future recovery strategies.

Bell also mentioned that there are currently four shelter and reunification centers operating within the county to assist residents affected by the disaster. These centers are crucial for providing support and resources to those in need during the recovery process.
