Goodwill Industries is set to make a significant impact in Boerne, Texas, as the organization presented its plans to establish a new store at the Live Oak Shopping Centre during the recent Planning and Zoning Commission meeting. Chief Operating Officer of Goodwill Industries, alongside CEO Carlos Contreras, emphasized the nonprofit's commitment to community revitalization and job creation, particularly in light of the ongoing challenges faced by local residents.

The proposed store aims to maintain the Hill Country charm of the area, with no external alterations planned beyond code-compliant signage. Goodwill's history of supporting individuals in need, particularly veterans and those with disabilities, was highlighted, showcasing its long-standing mission of providing a "hand up" rather than a "handout." The organization has been a staple in Southwest Texas for 80 years, operating 24 stores and various programs that focus on job training and placement.

Goodwill's initiatives include career centers that assist individuals in job searches, offering services such as resume writing and mock interviews. The organization reported that in 2024, it successfully placed over 762 individuals into jobs, with a focus on exceeding a placement pay goal of $15.05 an hour—200% of the federal poverty level.

The meeting also touched on Goodwill's commitment to sustainability, with plans to explore recycling operations in Boerne, further enhancing its community engagement.
