Mooresville Town Commission approves Project Shark Tank economic incentive agreement

One of the most significant discussions centered around "Project Shark Tank," a proposal to provide an economic development incentive agreement to Sheetz Laundry Club, a local manufacturer of eco-friendly cleaning products. The company, which has been operational since 2019 and gained recognition from the television show "Shark Tank," plans to invest $2.2 million in expanding its Mooresville facility. The proposed incentive, amounting to $19,192 over three years, is contingent upon the creation of at least nine new jobs. In addition to economic incentives, the Board addressed a request to landmark the Mount Morne Plantation, a historic site dating back to 1831. The plantation, associated with local pioneer Rufus Reed, was recognized for its architectural significance and historical value. The Board voted in favor of the landmark designation, reinforcing the town's dedication to preserving its cultural heritage.

The meeting also included discussions on zoning matters, including a request to rezone a property at 144 McNeil Lane to allow a member of the Historic Preservation Commission to serve while residing outside the town limits. This request was approved, ensuring that the commission can benefit from the expertise of its members.
