Crescent City Fire and Rescue celebrates 125 years of dedicated service

The Crescent City Council celebrated a significant milestone during its recent meeting, proclaiming the 125th anniversary of the Crescent City Fire and Rescue. This proclamation highlights the department's long-standing commitment to the safety and security of the community, which has been a vital part of Crescent City since the establishment of the Volunteer Fire Department in 1900.

Mayor and council members expressed their gratitude for the dedicated service of the fire department, which has evolved over the years into a joint operation with the Crescent Fire Protection District. This merger, initiated ten years ago, has not only enhanced operational efficiency but has also strengthened the firefighting capabilities available to residents, resulting in significant cost savings.

The department's achievements were underscored by its impressive Class 2 ISO rating, a distinction held by less than 7% of paid volunteer fire departments. This rating reflects the department's ability to respond effectively to a wide range of emergencies, including medical incidents, fires, and natural disasters like floods and tsunamis.

City Manager emphasized the importance of the volunteers, who have been the backbone of the department throughout its history. With only six fire chiefs in 125 years, the legacy of service and commitment to the community was acknowledged as a remarkable feat.
