Vermillion City Council approves special alcohol licenses for summer events at Radigan Platts

The Vermillion City Council convened on July 8, 2025, to discuss several key permits and licenses aimed at enhancing community events over the summer and into the fall. Central to the meeting was the approval of a special daily malt beverage and wine license for the Vermillion Area Chamber and Development Company (VCDC) for events scheduled on Thursdays from July 10 through August 21. These events will take place at Radigan Platts, located half a block south of West Main Street, from 4 PM to 8 PM.

The council noted that previous events held under similar licenses had no reported incidents, and the VCDC plans to implement a wristband system to verify the age of attendees. This system will ensure that only individuals aged 21 and over can purchase alcohol, with clear signage indicating areas where alcohol consumption is prohibited. The council's administration recommended approval of the license, contingent upon the VCDC's adherence to city regulations and conditions.

In addition to the beverage license, the council also approved a special permit allowing the VCDC to exceed permissible noise levels during these Thursday events. The permit is intended to facilitate a downtown concert series, with the same dates and times as the beverage license. The administration expressed confidence in the event's public benefit, recommending approval unless any issues arise during the public hearing.

Looking ahead, the VCDC also submitted an application for a special daily malt beverage and wine license for an Oktoberfest event scheduled for September 26, 2025. This event will span West Main Street from Brewery to Court Street and will include measures to ensure responsible alcohol distribution and consumption. The council received assurances from the VCDC regarding safety measures, including barriers and staff monitoring.
