Pride of the Valley announces 30th annual 5K run with new 10K option

Baldwin Park is gearing up for a vibrant celebration as the Pride of the Valley 5K run marks its thirtieth anniversary on August 2 at Morgan Park. The event will feature an exciting addition this year—a 10K race, allowing participants to choose between two distances.

Jenny, the event coordinator, shared details during the Recreation Commission meeting, highlighting that every registered runner will receive a medal upon completion, regardless of whether they run or walk. In a nod to community engagement, Burger King has signed on as a sponsor, providing vouchers for all participants.

To promote the event, outreach efforts have been extensive since March, including distribution of flyers at local races and running stores. Billboards along the 10 and 605 Freeways are also part of the promotional strategy, aiming to attract a larger crowd. Jenny emphasized the importance of community involvement, noting that running clubs are being incentivized with discounts and raffle opportunities for registrations.

The competition is heating up with various challenges designed to encourage participation. Clubs that register 25 or more runners will have their logos featured on race shirts. Additionally, high schools and city departments are competing for prizes, including personalized canopies and trophies for the most registrations.

The Baldwin Park Run Club, which offers free training sessions, is also fostering community spirit by welcoming runners of all levels. The club meets twice a week, providing a supportive environment for participants to prepare for the race.

As the event approaches, the excitement is palpable, with organizers optimistic about a strong turnout and community engagement. The Pride of the Valley 5K run promises to be a memorable occasion, celebrating not just the milestone anniversary but also the spirit of togetherness in Baldwin Park.
