West Bend City Council approves Fire Station construction and new residential zoning changes

The Common Council of West Bend convened on July 7, 2025, to discuss several significant agenda items, including the construction of a new fire station and amendments to the city’s comprehensive plan.

The council unanimously approved a motion to proceed with the construction of Fire Station Number 1, signaling a commitment to enhancing local emergency services. This decision reflects the city's ongoing efforts to improve public safety infrastructure.

In addition to the fire station, the council addressed an ordinance to amend the 2020 comprehensive plan. This amendment involves changing the land use designation for approximately 0.41 acres of land located north of Highmount Road from industrial to single-family residential and from industrial and single-family residential to two-family residential. A developer plans to construct four single-family homes and two duplexes on this site, which has historically been an empty lot and previously served as a parking area for industrial use. The redevelopment aims to bring new residents to the area and fill a gap in housing.

The council also approved a rezoning ordinance for approximately 0.53 acres of land in the same vicinity, transitioning the zoning from heavy industrial to two-family residential. This change aligns with the proposed development of duplexes, facilitating the construction of additional housing options.

Furthermore, the council moved to permanently zone approximately 107.6 acres of land on the south side of Rusco Drive from temporary zoning to heavy industrial. This property was annexed into the city months prior and is now set to align with the comprehensive plan, ensuring that the zoning reflects the intended use of the area.

The meeting concluded with a discussion on repealing and recreating municipal code chapter 12, which pertains to licenses and permits, indicating ongoing efforts to streamline local regulations.
