Carmel Common Council approves $1.3M for White River Greenway North Extension

Carmel City Council made significant strides in urban development during its July 7 meeting, focusing on the White River Greenway North Extension project. The council approved an appropriation of approximately $1.3 million from the Parks and Recreation Impact Fund to advance this initiative, which is funded through the state's Ready 1 program.

Director of Carmel Clay Parks and Recreation, Michael Klitzing, explained that the funds are part of a larger $4 million grant aimed at enhancing the city's greenway infrastructure. This appropriation is crucial for cash flow management, allowing the city to utilize grant funds effectively while ensuring no tax dollars are involved in the project.

The council's swift action included a public hearing, which saw no community opposition, leading to a unanimous vote to proceed with the appropriation. Council members expressed their support for the project, emphasizing its importance for the city’s recreational and environmental goals.
