La Porte approves Slicer Performing Arts 5K and mountain bike competition events

The La Porte Board of Public Works & Safety meeting on July 8, 2025, showcased two exciting new events aimed at boosting community engagement and promoting local activities.

First up was the Slicer Performing Arts 5K, a fresh initiative spearheaded by the Slicer Performing Arts Club. Jamie Buchanan represented the group, detailing the proposed route that begins at La Porte High School and winds through local streets to Kesseling Park. The event aims to foster community spirit and support the arts, with all necessary paperwork, including a certificate of liability, already in place. Next on the agenda was a mountain bike competition, also a new addition to the local event calendar. Scheduled for a Sunday morning, the race will take place in a designated area from Orchard to the boat launch, with minimal disruption expected. Board members expressed enthusiasm for the event, noting the high ratings of La Porte's mountain bike trails on a national site, which underscores the quality of local recreational offerings. The trails are well-maintained by a dedicated group, including local firefighters, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for participants.
