Westland event supports Salvation Army with food and scholarship contributions

Westland City Council members gathered on July 7, 2025, to discuss community initiatives and address pressing local concerns. A highlight of the meeting was the announcement of an upcoming fundraising event that aims to support the Salvation Army and provide scholarships for local school children. Attendees are encouraged to bring a toy to the event, which will feature food from local restaurants for a nominal fee of $25. This year, the initiative has already contributed $11,000 in scholarships to children living in Westland, showcasing the event's commitment to community support.

The event will also include music from the Salvation Army, creating a festive atmosphere for participants. Organizers emphasized the importance of local involvement, inviting residents to enjoy a two-hour strolling experience at the new venue.

In addition to the fundraising efforts, concerns were raised by residents from the Annapolis Park subdivision regarding ongoing issues in their community. Miss Wilson, representing the Southeast Westland Homeowners Association, expressed urgency in addressing these matters, which have been previously brought to the council's attention.
