Martinsville leaders seek funding for Centennial Road improvements and new elementary school

Improvements to Centennial Road and a proposed roundabout at Egbert Road are set to transform traffic flow and boost economic development in Morgan County, Indiana. During the recent Morgan County RDC meeting, officials highlighted the urgent need for these infrastructure upgrades, particularly in light of the new elementary school being constructed in the area.

Greg, a key speaker at the meeting, emphasized that while the roundabout is not strictly necessary, it would significantly enhance traffic management and support future economic growth. He stated, “The upgrades to Centennial Road are essential not only for the new elementary school but also for opening the area to further economic development.”

The estimated cost for the Centennial Road improvements stands at $1,000,009.76, while the roundabout project is projected to cost around $1,300,000. Together, these projects total approximately $3.3 million. Greg assured the board that they would not be asked to cover any unexpected budget overruns, stating, “We would cover any additional costs if the roundabout exceeds our estimates.”

Superintendent Eric Bollin also addressed the board, reflecting on the historical context of economic development in the county. He noted the importance of schools in driving growth, stating, “If an area doesn't grow, neither does a school. And if you don't have good schools, you don't have good economic growth either.” He expressed optimism about the new elementary school, designed with a focus on STEM education, which he believes will attract families and enhance the community's appeal.

The meeting underscored a collaborative effort between the school district and local government to ensure that the necessary infrastructure is in place to support both educational and economic objectives. As the community anticipates the unveiling of the school’s plans in August, officials are hopeful that these developments will pave the way for a brighter future in Morgan County.
