Parker Wagnon, a 2024 alumnus of the Youth City Council, shared his experiences, highlighting the valuable skills he gained during his time in the program. Wagnon noted that the support from city council members is exceptional, stating, "It's unique for a city to really support and respect their youth leaders." He described the annual presentation of their big ideas to the city council, where members engage with the youth just as they would with adult presenters.

Wagnon also mentioned the networking opportunities available through the program, including attending the National League of Cities conference in Washington, D.C., which helped him establish connections with city staff. This experience ultimately led to an internship with the city, further enhancing his understanding of local governance.

Requirements include a letter of recommendation, a 250-word essay, and a video introduction. The Youth City Council meets monthly, typically on the second Thursday from 5 to 7 PM, providing a platform for young leaders to develop their skills and make a difference in their community.
