Mayor confirms Laura Sudcamp and Mark Mogul to Science Advisory Board

The District of Columbia's Committee on the Judiciary and Public Safety convened on July 8, 2025, to discuss significant nominations to the Science Advisory Board, spotlighting the expertise of two prominent figures in forensic science.

Laura Sudcamp, nominated for a term ending April 18, 2028, brings an impressive 35 years of experience, having recently retired as the laboratory system director for the Kentucky State Police Division of Forensic Sciences. Sudcamp's extensive background includes overseeing six laboratories and a workforce of 145, specializing in various forensic disciplines. Her qualifications are bolstered by a bachelor's degree in chemistry and advanced training from the Forensic Management Academy. Sudcamp has also been a key figure in the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors, serving as past president and actively participating in national forensic science initiatives.

Mark Mogul, also nominated for a term ending April 18, 2028, currently serves as the Assistant Director of Forensic Sciences at the U.S. Department of Justice. With 14 years of experience as a forensic scientist with the Pennsylvania State Police, Mogul has a proven track record in quality assurance and laboratory accreditation. His involvement with the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors further underscores his commitment to advancing forensic science standards.

These nominations, introduced by Chairman Mendelson at the mayor's request, aim to enhance the Science Advisory Board's capabilities with leaders who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to forensic science and public safety.
