The Phoenix Elementary School District celebrated a significant partnership with the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity during the recent Governing Board meeting on July 8, 2025. The fraternity, which held its international conference in Phoenix from July 1 to July 6, dedicated time to read to students enrolled in the Gable Boys and Girls Club summer program and at the Y Academy at Monterey Park. Over 30 fraternity members volunteered, sharing their passion for reading and gifting books to the students.

In a noteworthy commitment, Kappa Alpha Psi announced plans to provide a book to every incoming kindergarten student for the upcoming school year, further enhancing their support for literacy in the community. The acting superintendent expressed gratitude for this new partnership, highlighting its positive impact on students.

In addition to the partnership announcement, the meeting addressed staffing updates. The district is down to just one general education classroom teacher vacancy, following a recent resignation. The acting superintendent praised the efforts of principals and supervisors for their successful hiring season, noting that the district is on track to fill the remaining position soon.
