Lakeville Conservation Commission reviews tree removal proposals at Pine Bluff and State Shore Road

The Lakeville Conservation Commission convened on July 8, 2025, to discuss two significant projects concerning tree removal in the area. The meeting, held at the Lakeville Police Station, focused on applications from local residents seeking to address tree-related issues on their properties.

The first application was presented by Norma Anthony, who sought permission to remove tree debris at her property located at 17 Pine Bluff. During the discussion, it was revealed that Anthony's son had inadvertently cut down several trees while attempting to clean up debris on a steep slope near the water. Anthony proactively contacted the Conservation Commission to rectify the situation. The Commission noted that the remaining stumps would be left in place, and an arborist would be hired to clean up the debris. The Commission approved a negative determination with specific conditions: no stump removal, no heavy equipment near the pond, and all debris must be removed off-site.

The second application involved Donna, who requested the removal of a diseased elm tree at her property on 129 State Shore Road. The tree was reportedly growing near a stone retention wall and was causing concerns about its roots infiltrating the foundation of her home. Although Donna was not present at the meeting, the Commission reviewed submitted photographs and noted the tree's condition. The Commission opened the hearing for this request, indicating a thorough review process would follow.

Both discussions highlighted the Commission's commitment to environmental protection while addressing the concerns of local residents. The next steps will involve further evaluations and adherence to the conditions set forth by the Commission to ensure compliance with local conservation laws.
