Englewood completes 1000 service line replacements with bipartisan infrastructure law funding

Englewood City is making significant strides in its water infrastructure improvement project, with the replacement of over 1,100 lead service lines as part of a comprehensive initiative funded by a $10 million grant from the bipartisan infrastructure law. The project, which began in March 2023, has seen extensive community outreach and engagement, with nearly 4,000 points of contact recorded, of which 62% were positive.

The timeline of the project has been meticulously planned, with construction starting in July 2024 and ongoing efforts to minimize disruption to residents. The city has implemented innovative technologies, such as insertion valves, which allow for the installation of new valves without shutting down the water supply, thereby reducing service interruptions.

As of now, the city has verified nearly 3,900 service lines, with a target of replacing approximately 2,700 lines citywide. The project is currently focused on three active zones, with construction expected to wrap up in the Central and South zones by mid-July 2025. The Broadway area has been identified as a separate zone due to unexpected additional replacements needed, highlighting the complexities of the project.

Community engagement has been a priority, with 22 public events and numerous neighborhood meetings held to keep residents informed and involved. The city is also working closely with Public Works to coordinate street repairs and ensure that the lead line replacements do not interfere with other infrastructure projects.

Financially, the project is on track, having spent about 30% of its budget as of July 2025. The city remains committed to transparency and effective communication with residents as it continues to enhance the safety and reliability of its water supply system.
