Maricopa County hosts resume workshop to enhance job seekers' skills

On July 9, 2025, Maricopa County, Arizona, hosted a resume workshop aimed at assisting job seekers in enhancing their employability. The workshop, which requires no enrollment or eligibility criteria, allows participants to work directly with trainers to refine and create effective resumes.

Sonia Ruiz, a workforce development trainer, emphasized the importance of keeping resumes updated, noting that some attendees had not revised theirs in over 20 years. Participants learn essential tips on what to include and avoid in their resumes, as well as how to navigate applicant tracking systems that many employers use.

In addition to resume writing, the workshop also provides opportunities for participants to practice their interviewing skills with experienced trainers. The Maricopa County workforce development team further supports job seekers by offering job search assistance.

Last year, the human services department reported that 369 individuals improved their employability through the workshop. So far this year, 280 residents have benefited from the program. The workshop is available in both English and Spanish, ensuring accessibility for a diverse range of participants.
