Bountiful City Council approves $248K purchase of six police vehicles

Bountiful City Council has taken significant steps to enhance public safety and infrastructure during its recent regular session on July 9, 2025. The council approved the purchase of six new police vehicles, totaling $248,373, to replace aging units in the Bountiful Police Department's fleet. This acquisition includes a Dodge Durango for patrol, three Ford F-150s for supervisors, and two Toyota Camrys for detectives, all sourced from Young Automotive Group under a state contract.

Lieutenant Andrew Smith presented the request, emphasizing that these vehicles are essential for maintaining effective law enforcement operations. The decision to replace the aging fleet comes as the department aims to ensure reliable service to the community.

In addition to the police vehicles, the council also approved several other equipment purchases aimed at improving city services. This includes two maintenance trucks for the public works department, costing $146,452.06, and two new plow trucks for winter operations, totaling $654,986.96. These purchases are part of a long-term capital plan to maintain and upgrade the city's infrastructure.

The stormwater department received approval for a new Vactor truck, essential for maintaining the city's storm drain system, at a cost of $600,113.02. Furthermore, the council greenlit the purchase of two garbage trucks for $382,819, which are crucial for the city's waste management operations.

Lastly, the council addressed the Northwest Substation project, approving the purchase of tapered and structural steel for a total of $186,138. This infrastructure investment is vital for the city's electrical system and will support future growth.
